Abortion Service FAQ’s

Serving Fort Pierce, FL & Surrounding Areas

1. DOES IT HURT?

ANSWER
: This is not a pain-free procedure, you will have cramping like menstrual cramps. We offer oral (pills) sedation and twilight sedation if needed.

2. HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?

ANSWER: The actual procedure in most cases takes 3-5 minutes.

3. HOW LONG WILL I BE AT THE CLINIC?

ANSWER: You will be here a minimum of 3 hours and a maximum of 5 hours.

4. HOW LONG WILL I BE OUT OF WORK/SCHOOL?

ANSWER
: Usually you can return to work/school the next day as long as your not picking up anything heavy or standing for a long period of time.

5. CAN I DRIVE MYSELF HOME?

ANSWER: If you are not taking any sedation you can drive yourself home, but if you take the oral or twilight sedation you do need someone to drive you home.

6. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ORAL SEDATION AND TWILIGHT SEDATION?

ANSWER
: Oral sedation is pills you take by mouth.  Which makes you feel more relaxed and less nervous. The twilight sedation is an IV push of medication which makes you really drunk like you have had a bottle of champagne by yourself.

7. WILL I BE ABLE TO HAVE CHILDREN AFTER AN ABORTION?

ANSWER
: You should have no problems with having children later when you are ready as long as you take care of yourself afterwards. An abortion is safer than having a full term delivery, but you should wait at least 6 months to a year before trying to get pregnant again.

8. IS THIS DONE IN ONE DAY?

ANSWER: No everything cannot be done in one day.  Appointments require a two-day process, which would consist of  the ultrasound, lab work, paperwork counseling and see the Doctor one day and then coming back on the second day for the procedure or to take the abortion pill.

9. DO MY PARENTS NEED TO KNOW?

ANSWER: The state of Florida enacted the "Parental Notification Law"  Under the new law any minor, under the age of 18, will have to have one of their parents/legal guardian sign a consent form that they are going to have a termination. If they do not want their parent/legal guardian notified they can go through a process called a Judicial Bypass, where the minor can ask a judge to waive the notice to her parent/legal guardian. The Judicial Bypass is free no cost to a minor.

10. IS THIS KEPT CONFIDENTIAL?

ANSWER: All the paperwork that you sign is kept very confidential. That is why it is very important that you bring picture I.D. with you on surgery day, it helps us to insure your confidentiality. If anyone requests any information about any patient before looking for records we request the picture I.D.

About Us

AWWMC was founded in 1991 by Candace Dye, a life-long resident of St. Lucie County. She has worked in womens health care for over twenty-two years and is committed to providing quality care and emotional support while making services accessible and affordable. Our primary goal is to give patients the best care and treatment to our patients as we would care for our  sister, daughter or best friend.

We are a small clinic where individual care and attention are the norm. Our staff includes physicians, a female nurse practitioner, nurses and medical assistants. We are a mirror of our community... we are single mothers, wives, daughters and sisters. We have our own pregnancy experiences to draw from giving us a special connection to our patients.

AWWMC provides a wide range of family planning, gynecology and abortion services. Services are provided by appointment only. Please call 772-460-1506 for an appointment.

Testimonials

I visited AWWMC today for my abortion and I have no worries. The staff is very helpful and nice. Do not be scared, you are safe here.

I came here with doubts and fears. This was the hardest thing I had to do and I was scared at first. The staff made me feel good and assured me everything was going to be fine. I am hoping and praying I don not ever have to make this tough decision again but if I do, I know I'll come back here. I'm so thankful for everything.

This place is great. They are really nice and care.

I have referred patients to AWWMC for the past 7 years. Candace and her staff are compassionate, professional, informative and honest with the women who need their abortion services. I  will not refer my patients to anyone else.
